Must List: Six Things to Do in Seattle This Week
Ballet spoofs, basketball magic, and music worth the hype
By Sarah Stackhouse January 23, 2025

How are you? It’s been a tough week here, but at least the sun’s been lovely, hasn’t it? I’ve been leaning on my weekly riding lessons — time with a big, black horse who’s incredibly handsome, a little frisky, and always looking for connection. No opinions, no politics — just that simple give-and-take of trust. It’s so grounding. I hope you’ve got something steady to hold onto right now. Here’s what’s going on around town this week:
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo
Thursday, Jan. 23, 8 p.m.-10 p.m.
Meany Center for the Performing Arts
$25+
Catch this all-male ballet troupe known for its hilarious takes on classical ballets. With impeccable technique and plenty of over-the-top drama, the troupe brings pointe shoes and punchlines together in a way that’s both ridiculous and impressive. The Trocks are “a guaranteed hoot for people who know nothing of ballet and an absolute must for those who think they know the originals,” says the Sydney Star Observer.
Astronaut Nicole Stott: Space for Art
Saturday, Jan. 25, 2 p.m.
Museum of Flight
Free with museum admission
I love astronauts. Who doesn’t? Nicole Stott, a veteran of two spaceflights and the first astronaut to paint in space, is coming to the Museum of Flight to screen Space for Art. The film documents her mission to connect kids around the world through creativity and the wonder of space. Afterwards, she’ll talk about her incredible career — yes, including the watercolor she painted in orbit, which you can see at the museum.
Harlem Globetrotters
Sunday, Jan. 26, 3 p.m.
Climate Pledge Arena
$43+
When I was a kid, my dad took me to see the Harlem Globetrotters, and I still think about it. Players seemed to defy gravity, flying through the air, pulling off tricks I didn’t even know were possible. And the goofy mascots got everyone laughing. It’s basketball as pure joy. You’ll cheer. You’ll laugh. You’ll wish you could dunk.
Tim Heidecker: Slipping Away Tour
Sunday, Jan. 26, 8 p.m.
Neptune Theatre
$39.50+
I’ve been a Tim Heidecker fan since his Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! days — spoofing the kind of cable TV I grew up on. Life’s gotten weirder since then — pandemics, politics, middle age — but Tim’s managed to respond to it all with music that’s funny, honest, and really good. Go see him, knowing you can’t really be sure what you’re signing up for, and that’s half the fun. Remember his standup special?
Nemahsis
Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7 p.m.
Neumos
$25+
Nemahsis is a name you should know. The Palestinian-Canadian singer-songwriter’s debut album, Verbathim, thoughtfully weaves themes of belonging and introspection into every track. Her voice is beautiful and brimming with emotion. Her song “Stick of Gum” has been called one of 2024’s best. She’s on her first headline tour — catch her while she’s still playing intimate shows.
Almost Live! (Almost an Exhibit)
Now-Feb. 23
MOHAI
Free with museum admission
Remember Almost Live!? The sketch comedy show that put Seattle on the map for more than coffee and grunge? From 1984 to 1999, it hilariously skewered local quirks, launched big careers, and captured a city on the rise. MOHAI’s exhibit gets into that era with clips and artifacts. Catch it before it’s gone next month.
